Our Assessment: The Ruger Precision Rifle in .338 Lapua Magnum represents Ruger’s entry into the extreme long-range precision market, combining a fully adjustable chassis system with a powerful magnum cartridge originally developed for military sniper applications in the 1980s. The .338 Lapua Magnum was engineered to bridge the gap between traditional long-range cartridges and heavier anti-materiel rounds, offering exceptional retained energy and ballistic performance at extended distances. Ruger’s Precision Rifle platform, with its modular design, folding adjustable stock, free-floating barrel, and robust receiver system, was purpose-built to harness cartridges of this class while maintaining shooter ergonomics and adaptability.
This 2020 example retains approximately 97 percent of its original anodized finish, showing light scratches and handling marks on the barrel and muzzle brake along with typical operational wear on the bolt. The bore is bright with sharp rifling and rates 9 out of 10, with fouling noted. The folding adjustable buttstock, M-LOK handguard, and included 5-round magazines remain in Excellent condition, with only minor superficial wear to the furniture. The action functions correctly and locks up as intended. Overall, this rifle rates in Very Good to Fine condition.
