Bore Condition: The bore is bright and the rifling is sharp. There is little to no erosion in the bore with some faint fouling on the lands. In this writer’s opinion, this bore rates 9/10.
Many military and C&R eligible weapons have bores that will show erosion. This is not only due to age but to the fact that corrosive primers were commonly used in ammunition worldwide. For example, the U.S. used corrosive ammunition throughout WWII. The U.S. military did not begin to phase out corrosive-primed ammunition until the 1950s.
Overall Condition: This rifle retains about 99% of its metal finish. There are light scratches throughout the finish. There are some faint rust freckles throughout. The screw heads are sharp. The markings are crisp. Overall, this rifle rates in about Very Good to Excellent condition. The bayonet is in Very Good condition with some minor enamel wear.
Mechanics: The action functions correctly. We did not fire this rifle. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance requirements.
Box, Paperwork & Accessories: Bayonet, canvas sling.
Our Assessment: This Colombian-contract Madsen Model 1947 rifle was manufactured by Dansk Industri Syndikat in Denmark and delivered to the Colombian armed forces in 1958. The Madsen M47 represents one of the last military bolt-action rifles adopted in the post-World War II era, developed at a time when many nations were transitioning to semi-automatic service rifles. Despite this shift, the M47 was built as a lightweight, modernized bolt-action rifle featuring improved ergonomics, aperture sights, and streamlined construction. The receiver marking identifying the Fuerzas Armadas de Colombia confirms its military contract origin, and the rifle reflects the final stage of military bolt-action development before the widespread adoption of self-loading rifles. This rifle is chambered in .30-06 Springfield, the American service cartridge adopted in 1906 and widely used by military forces around the world throughout the 20th century. The bore is bright with sharp rifling and minimal erosion along with faint fouling, earning a rating of 9 out of 10. The rifle retains approximately 99 percent of its original black enamel finish with only light scratches and faint rust freckling visible. The two-piece stock remains in Very Good condition with light handling wear and a small developing crack at the forend under the barrel band, while retaining its original military configuration and hardware.
This rifle’s configuration reflects its late-production military design with a ported barrel, hooded front sight, and fully adjustable aperture rear sight. The screw heads remain sharp and the markings are crisp and well defined. The rifle includes a bayonet in Very Good condition along with a canvas sling. Overall, this 1958 Colombian Madsen M47 stands as a scarce example of a late-era military bolt-action rifle, combining modernized features with excellent overall condition and strong bore quality. -R.E.
