Our Assessment: This Egyptian Rasheed rifle was produced at Factory 54 in Maadi and represents Egypt’s adaptation of the Swedish Ljungman AG-42 design into a compact intermediate-cartridge semi-automatic rifle. Developed in the 1950s and produced into the late 1960s, the Rasheed was intended to modernize Egyptian infantry arms by combining a lightweight profile with semi-automatic fire. The rifle utilizes a direct impingement gas system derived from the Swedish Ljungman design, paired with a shortened action and barrel to accommodate the 7.62×39 cartridge. The folding bayonet integrated into the forend and the Arabic-marked sights reflect its military origin and regional production. The bore is bright with sharp rifling and no visible erosion, with the last several inches counter-bored, earning a rating of 9 out of 10. The rifle retains approximately 97 percent of its original metal finish with light thinning, small nicks, and scattered handling marks visible. The two-piece stock remains in Very Good Plus condition with light wear and minor chipping, maintaining solid structure and proper fit.
This rifle includes its original-pattern folding bayonet in Excellent condition along with a leather sling and ten-round magazine. The screw heads remain sharp and the markings are clear and well defined. Overall, this Rasheed stands as a well-preserved example of a relatively scarce Egyptian semi-automatic military rifle, combining Ljungman-inspired operation with the widely used 7.62×39 cartridge in a compact service configuration. -R.E.
