Sights / Optics: The iron sights have been removed and filled with the appropriate screws. The top of the receiver is mounted with a Simmons Pro 50 2.5-10×50 scope, with a duplex reticle. The glass in the scope is clear. The scope shows light wear, with a few dings in its camo spray painted finish. Overall, the scope rates in Very Good condition. The scope is mounted on a Leupold style base, and sits in 1″ rings.
Stock Configuration & Condition: The stock is a one-piece checkered walnut stock, with a capped semi-pistol grip, fluted monte carlo comb with cheekpiece, checkered plastic buttplate, tipped forend, and sling studs front and rear. The LOP measures 13 1/4″ from the front of the trigger to the back of the buttplate. The stock has been refinished by an amateur camo spray paint job. The stock shows light wear, with a few scratches, dings and compressions throughout. The stock’s refinish is largely intact. The stock fits tightly to the barreled action, with no play. There are no chips or cracks. Overall, the stock rates in Good condition.
Type of Finish: Camo Spray Paint
Finish Originality: Refinished
Bore Condition: The bore is bright with sharp rifling. There is no erosion in the bore, but there is some minor fouling present. In this writer’s opinion, the bore rates 10/10.
Overall Condition: This rifle retains about 95% of its camo spray paint refinish. The balance of the finish shows areas where the paint has been scraped off around the serial number and caliber stamp on the barrel. There are a few other minor dings throughout the spray paint finish on the barrel and receiver. There is operational wear on the bolt body. The markings are somewhat clear and mostly legible. The screw heads are tooled, but retain strong and serviceable slots. Overall, this rifle rates in Good condition.
Mechanics: The action functions correctly, as does the safety. The trigger has a light, crisp, and clean break. We did not fire this rifle, but we did perform a mechanic’s check. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance requirements.
Box, Paperwork & Accessories: This rifle comes with the scope as mentioned above.
Our Assessment: The Remington 700 BDL has long been one of America’s most respected sporting bolt actions, and this February 1990 example reflects that legacy in a lightweight, high velocity varmint configuration. Built on the proven Model 700 push feed action with dual locking lugs and a recessed bolt face, the platform became a dominant force in both the hunting fields and precision shooting circles. Chambered in .17 Remington, a cartridge introduced in 1971 and celebrated for its extremely high velocity, flat trajectory, and minimal recoil, this rifle was purpose built for varmints and predator work where precision and speed are paramount.
This rifle now wears a camo spray paint refinish over both the metal and the walnut stock, retaining approximately 95 percent of that applied finish with minor scrapes around the serial and caliber markings and light handling marks throughout. The bore remains bright with sharp rifling, rating 10 out of 10, and the action cycles correctly with a light, crisp trigger break. The refinished walnut BDL stock remains structurally sound with a tight fit to the action, and the rifle is equipped with a Simmons Pro 50 2.5-10×50 scope on a Leupold style base. While cosmetically altered from factory configuration, it remains a mechanically strong and capable .17 Remington built on one of the most trusted bolt action platforms ever produced.
