Markings: The left side of the slide is marked “COLT AUTOMATIC / CAL.22 LONG RIFLE”. The barrel is marked, “COLT’S PT.F.A. MFG CO. HARTFORD, CONN. U.S.A.”, The left side of the frame is marked with the Rampant Colt logo and “MATCH TARGET”. The right side of the frame is marked with the serial number “005937S”.

Sights / Optics: The front sight is a black blade pinned to a ramped base, integral to the barrel. The rear sight is an Elliason adjustable square-notch sight, dovetailed to the slide.
Stock Configuration & Condition: The grips are a two-piece checkered walnut grip set. The grips show light signs of handling and operational wear with compression dings and scratches. The checkering is sharp. There are no chips or cracks. The grips fit the frame tightly, with no play. Overall, the grips rate in Very Good condition.

Bore Condition: The bore is bright with sharp rifling. There is no erosion in the bore, but there is some light fouling in the grooves and near the muzzle. In this writer’s opinion both bore rates 9/10.
Overall Condition: This handgun retains about 90% of its original metal finish. The balance of the finish shows light wear, with minor superficial scratches scattered about the frame, barrel and other metal surfaces. There is thinning on the leading edges of the frame, barrel and trigger guard. The action shows moderate wear. The screw heads are sharp, and the pins are unmarred. The markings are clear and legible. Overall, this pistol rates in Very Good condition.
Mechanics: The action and slide lock function correctly and are smooth. The trigger has a clean and crisp break. The safety functions correctly. We did not fire this handgun, but we did perform a mechanic’s check. The action has quite a bit of residue built up inside from firing. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance standards.

Our Assessment: The Colt Woodsman series stands as one of the most respected American rimfire target pistols of the twentieth century. First introduced by Colt in 1915, the Woodsman quickly earned a reputation for excellent accuracy, smooth operation, and refined workmanship. Designed as a high quality sporting and target pistol chambered in .22 Long Rifle, it became popular with competitive shooters, small game hunters, and recreational marksmen alike. Over the decades the design evolved through several generations, with the Match Target models representing some of the most refined variants produced during the later years of production.
By the late 1960s Colt’s Woodsman Match Target pistols incorporated improved target features such as the Elliason adjustable rear sight and refined grip contours intended to enhance precision shooting. The .22 Long Rifle cartridge itself had long been favored for target practice and competition due to its low recoil, affordability, and inherent accuracy. Pistols like the Woodsman allowed shooters to develop exceptional marksmanship while maintaining the quality and balance expected from a Colt firearm.
This 1969 produced example remains in Very Good overall condition and is accompanied by two original magazines as well as its matching Colt cardboard box and paperwork. The pistol retains the majority of its original blue finish with light edge wear and scattered handling marks consistent with careful use. The walnut grips remain sharp and well fitted to the frame, and the bright bore with strong rifling reflects the Woodsman’s reputation as a capable and accurate rimfire pistol. With its desirable Match Target configuration and factory box and accessories, this Colt Woodsman represents a classic American target pistol from the final years of the model’s long production run.
