Our Assessment: The Colt Frontier Scout is a rimfire revolver styled after the legendary Colt Single Action Army, offering the same classic single action operation and western styling in the economical and easy shooting .22 Long Rifle chambering. Introduced in the late 1950s, the Frontier Scout quickly became popular for recreational shooting, training, and collecting. During the 1960s Colt produced a number of commemorative Frontier Scout revolvers honoring historic events and regional milestones, many of which featured special finishes, engraved markings, and presentation cases intended for collectors.

This example is the Colorado Gold Rush Commemorative produced in 1966 to recognize the historic gold discoveries that helped shape Colorado’s early development. The Colorado Gold Rush began in 1858 and sparked a massive influx of prospectors and settlers into the Rocky Mountain region, playing a major role in the establishment of mining towns and the eventual formation of the Colorado Territory. The revolver bears commemorative barrel markings referencing the Gold Rush years and features gold plated barrel and cylinder components along with a gold anodized frame, creating a striking and distinctive appearance.

Only 1,350 examples of this commemorative were produced, and this revolver is serial number 6CG, making it an especially desirable early numbered example from the run. The revolver retains about 98 percent of its original finish with only a few small handling marks noted on the frame and barrel. The bore is bright with strong rifling and there is no visible cylinder turn line. It is accompanied by its original black felt lined wood factory display case featuring Colorado mountain imagery and the Colt logo on the lid.
