Action Type: Single Action Revolver with Side Loading Gate Cylinder

Markings: The top of the barrel is marked with Colt’s barrel address “COLT’S PT. F.A. MFG. Co. HARTFORD CT. U.S.A.”, the left side is marked “COLT SINGLE ACTION ARMY .45”. The left of the frame is marked “PAT. SEPT. 19, 1871 / JULY 2, 72 JAN. 19, 75” and with a rampant colt logo. The right of the trigger guard is marked “Y”. The bottom of the frame and the left of each portion of the grip frame are each marked “S90337A”. There is a partial matching serial number on the face of the cylinder of “337”. The inside of the grips are marked with electropencil with the matching serial number “337”.

Barrel Length: 5 1/2″

Sights / Optics: The front sight is a quarter-round blade fixed to the front of the barrel. The rear sight is a square notch at the rear of a groove in the top strap.

Stock Configuration & Condition: The grips are a two-piece checkered hard rubber grips with no handling marks. There are no chips or cracks in the grips. Overall, the grips are in Excellent Like New condition.

Type of Finish: Blued & Case Hardened

Finish Originality: Original

Bore Condition: The bore is mirror bright and the rifling is sharp. This gun appears to be UNFIRED since factory testing. In this writer’s opinion the bore rates 10/10.

Overall Condition: This revolver retains about 99.9% of its metal finish. The revolver appears to be unfired since factory testing and is in mint, Like New condition. There are no handling marks on the finish. There is no turn line on the cylinder or any carbon residue. The screw heads are sharp. The markings are clear. Overall, this revolver is in Excellent, Like New condition.

Mechanics: Due to the Like New condition, we did not rotate the cylinder in order to prevent a turn line. We did not fire this revolver. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance standards.

Our Assessment: The Colt Single Action Army remains one of the most iconic revolvers ever produced, and the 3rd Generation models continue that tradition with modern production quality while maintaining the classic lines and operation of the original design. Chambered in .45 Colt with a 5 1/2 inch barrel, this 2020–21 production example represents one of the most desirable configurations for both collectors and enthusiasts. The blued barrel and cylinder paired with the vivid case hardened frame give the revolver the unmistakable appearance that has defined the model for generations.

This revolver retains approximately 99.9 percent of its original finish and appears unfired since factory testing. There is no visible turn line on the cylinder, no carbon residue, and no handling marks present. The screw heads are sharp and the markings are clear and crisp throughout. The bore is mirror bright with sharp rifling, rating 10 out of 10 in this writer’s opinion. The two piece checkered hard rubber grips are free of chips, cracks, or wear and rate in Excellent Like New condition.

Mechanically, due to the Like New condition of the revolver, the cylinder was not rotated in order to prevent a turn line. The revolver includes its matching Colt plastic case, paperwork, and lock, adding to its overall package appeal. This is a mint 3rd Generation Single Action Army in a highly sought after caliber and barrel length, suitable for the collector seeking a modern example in exceptional condition.
