Our Assessment: The Colt Single Action Army, introduced in 1873, became one of the most iconic revolvers of the American West and a benchmark for single action design. Adopted by the U.S. military and favored by civilians, lawmen, and frontiersmen alike, the SAA earned its reputation for strength, balance, and reliability. The 3rd Generation models, produced beginning in 1976 and continuing through the present with various refinements, maintain the classic lines and handling characteristics of the original while benefiting from modern metallurgy and manufacturing consistency. This 2012–2013 production example reflects Colt’s continued commitment to the traditional 7.5 inch Cavalry-length configuration chambered in .45 Colt, complete with period-correct markings and the unmistakable profile that has defined the model for over 150 years.
This revolver appears to be in mint, like new condition, retaining approximately 99.9% of its original blued and case hardened finish. The bluing remains deep and lustrous, while the case colors on the frame are vivid and unmarred. There is no cylinder turn line, no carbon residue, and no visible handling marks. The checkered hard rubber Eagle grips are sharp and free of chips or cracks, with crisp molded detail and no signs of wear. The bore is mirror bright with sharp rifling and no evidence of use beyond factory testing, rating 10 out of 10 in this writer’s opinion.
Mechanically, the revolver appears to be in proper working order; however, due to its exceptional condition, the action was not cycled to avoid creating a turn line on the cylinder. All visible components appear correct and properly fitted. Accompanied by its Colt blue cardboard box, matching serialized outer sleeve, paperwork, and factory lock, this example would make an exceptional addition for the collector seeking a near-new 3rd Generation Single Action Army in the classic Cavalry configuration. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be advisable prior to use. Please see our photos for a better understanding of condition and good luck with your bids!
