Our Assessment: The Winchester Model 94 Saddle Ring Carbine remains one of the most recognizable American lever actions ever produced, and this 1969 “M” suffix example reflects the early years of the .44 Magnum chambering in the Model 94 platform. Manufactured in New Haven by Winchester Repeating Arms Company, this rifle represents the post-1964 production era but retains the classic 20 inch carbine configuration with full-length tubular magazine. The introduction of .44 Magnum in the Model 94 provided a powerful pistol-caliber option well suited to close- to mid-range hunting.
Chambered in .44 Magnum, the rifle retains a bright bore with sharp rifling, no erosion, and light fouling throughout, rating 9 out of 10. The rifle retains approximately 95 percent of its original blued finish with scattered scratches, handling marks, and light corrosion freckling. The white scuffs on the sight hood are visible, and screw heads range from sharp to lightly tool marked but remain serviceable. Barrel markings and the Winchester proof are clear and properly applied. The two-piece smooth wood stocks feature a banded forend, straight grip, straight comb, and checkered steel buttplate. Length of pull measures 13 1/4 inches. The wood shows light scratches, compression dents, and minor white scuffs near the buttplate, rating in Very Good condition.
Mechanically, the lever action functions correctly. The rifle retains both the traditional half-cock hammer safety and the lever safety. With its 1969 production date, desirable “M” suffix serial, and .44 Magnum chambering, this Winchester 94 Saddle Ring Carbine stands as a solid C&R-eligible example of a classic American pistol-caliber lever rifle.
