Our Assessment: The Winchester Model 94AE Trapper represents one of the final New Haven-produced variants of the legendary Model 94 platform. The “AE” designation reflects the Angle Eject configuration introduced to better accommodate optics, while the Trapper model features a compact 16 inch barrel that enhances portability and quick handling. Produced in the mid-2000s shortly before the closure of Winchester’s New Haven facility, these late-production carbines mark the end of an era for the original Model 94 line.
Chambered in .44 Remington Magnum, this rifle pairs a powerful revolver cartridge with the fast-handling lever-action platform. Introduced in the 1950s, the .44 Magnum became widely respected for its performance in both revolvers and carbines. In a 16 inch barrel, the cartridge benefits from additional velocity and controllability, making it well suited to short- to moderate-range hunting applications. The traditional semi-buckhorn rear sight and drilled and tapped receiver preserve flexibility for either iron-sight or optic use.
This example presents in excellent overall condition, retaining nearly all of its original deep blued finish with no notable wear visible. The bore remains bright with sharp rifling, and the walnut stock set is clean and tightly fitted with attractive grain. With its original matching box, documentation, and lock included, this Model 94AE Trapper stands as a well-preserved late-production example of Winchester’s iconic lever-action rifle chambered in a classic magnum revolver cartridge.
