Stock Configuration & Condition: The grips are two-piece checkered walnut Magna grips with S&W medallions. There are small scratches, compression marks, and areas of finish loss on the bottom of the grips. There is some dulling of the peaks. Overall, the grips are in Good condition.
Type of Finish: Blued. Case colored trigger and hammer.
Finish Originality: Original
Bore Condition: The bore is bright and the rifling is sharp. There is no erosion in the bore but there is fouling in the grooves. This bore rates in 9/10 in this writer’s opinion.
Overall Condition: This handgun retains about 95% of its metal finish. The top of the right side of the barrel rib is turning to a brown patina. There is slight thinning at the muzzle and the forward edge of the cylinder. There is a thin intermittent turn line on the cylinder and carbon rings on the face. There are a few small smudges on the frame. The screw heads are sharp. The markings are clear. Overall, this revolver is in Good to Very Good condition.
Mechanics: The action functions correctly. The double-action trigger is smooth and the single action crisp. The cylinder produces no play in lockup on each of the six chambers with the trigger depressed. We did not fire this handgun. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance requirements.
Box, Paperwork & Accessories: None.
Our Assessment: The Smith & Wesson Model 19-P is a relatively scarce export variation of the classic “Combat Magnum,” produced in 1987 specifically for foreign contract sales. While the standard Model 19 had long been a mainstay of American law enforcement, the 19-P was configured to meet export requirements, most notably for Peru. Estimates suggest approximately 3,300–3,800 revolvers were produced, with only about 1,500 reportedly delivered to Peru and the remainder diverted to the German commercial market. This example bears German proof marks and the distributor name “WISCHO,” confirming its European commercial history. The fixed-sight configuration distinguishes the 19-P from the typical adjustable-sight Combat Magnum, making it a unique and collectible variant within the Model 19 lineage.
This 4-inch pinned barrel example retains approximately 95% of its original blued finish. The top of the barrel rib shows some browning patina, with slight thinning at the muzzle and forward cylinder edge. There is a thin intermittent turn line on the cylinder along with carbon rings on the cylinder face. The bore is bright with sharp rifling and fouling present in the grooves, rating 9/10 in this writer’s opinion. The walnut Magna grips with S&W medallions show scratches, compression marks, finish wear at the bottoms, and some dulling of the checkering peaks, rating in Good condition overall. The markings, including the model designation and export proofs, remain clear and legible.
Mechanically, the revolver functions correctly with a smooth double-action pull and crisp single-action break. The cylinder locks up tightly with no perceptible play when the trigger is depressed on each chamber. As a limited-production 1987 export model with documented German proofing and distributor markings, this Model 19-P represents a distinctive and less commonly encountered variation of the renowned Combat Magnum series.
