Our Assessment: This 1932 Mauser Model 1930 Broomhandle is a classic example of the C96-pattern semi-automatic pistol produced at Oberndorf during the interwar period. The Model 1930 represents the refined commercial evolution of the earlier C96 variants, incorporating improved metallurgy and standardized production features while retaining the distinctive integral magazine and slab-sided receiver profile that made the Broomhandle instantly recognizable worldwide. With its 5 1/2 inch barrel and tangent rear sight graduated from 50 to 1000 meters, this pistol reflects Mauser’s original concept of a high-velocity commercial and military sidearm capable of impressive reach and precision. Chambered in 7.63x25mm Mauser, also known as .30 Mauser, the pistol is built around one of the highest-velocity handgun cartridges of its era. Introduced in the 1890s, the 7.63mm cartridge became known for flat trajectory and penetrating performance, reinforcing the C96’s reputation for range and accuracy. The short-recoil locking system and internal magazine fed by stripper clips demonstrate the advanced engineering that set the Mauser apart from many contemporary designs. All serialized parts on this example are matching, supporting its integrity as a cohesive production piece, and the Mauser banner and commercial proofs remain clear and well defined. The ribbed walnut grip panels appear to be replacements but present cleanly and remain in excellent overall condition.

Conditionally, this example retains approximately 99 percent of its refinished blued surface, showing light handling marks, scattered nicks and scratches, and minor oxidation including more pronounced areas beneath the grip panels. The bore remains bright with sharp rifling and only faint erosion, earning a strong 9 out of 10 rating. The action displays operational wear consistent with careful use, and the screw head retains a strong slot despite light tool marking. Taken as a whole, this 1932 Mauser Model 1930 stands as a representative and well-preserved commercial Broomhandle from the final full-production era of the C96 design, offering strong mechanical condition and classic interwar Mauser character. -R.E.
