Our Assessment: The Marlin Model 1894 has long been regarded as one of the most adaptable pistol-caliber lever actions in American production. Manufactured in 1989 by Marlin Firearms Co., this example has been professionally converted from its original .44 Magnum chambering to .45 ACP by Ranger Point Precision, a well-known name in modern lever-action refinement. The 18 inch barrel, marked with the Ranger Point Precision logo and “45 ACP,” reflects a purposeful reconfiguration that blends classic lever gun lines with a cartridge more commonly associated with semi-automatic pistols.

Chambered in .45 ACP, a cartridge introduced in 1905 and widely adopted in American service and sporting use, this rifle offers a unique pairing of rimless pistol ammunition with a tubular magazine-fed lever platform. The bore is bright with sharp rifling and no erosion, showing only very minor fouling and rating 9 out of 10. The rifle retains approximately 90 percent of its original blued finish with light handling marks, scattered scratches, and a few corrosion stains concentrated mostly on the receiver. Markings remain clear, and screw heads and pins are sharp. The two-piece walnut stock set features a straight grip, straight comb, capped forend, and checkered Marlin buttplate with a 13 1/2 inch length of pull. The wood shows scratches, compression dents, weathered finish loss, and an epoxied rear sling stud. The stock and forend exhibit slight looseness but no chips or cracks, rating in Good condition.

Mechanically, the action functions correctly, the half-cock safety operates properly, and the crossbolt safety has been disabled. The rifle is further enhanced with a short stroke kit and capped forend, and receipts for the work are included along with the original barrel and parts. With its professional conversion, documented upgrades, and classic Marlin lever-action platform, this Model 1894 represents a distinctive custom configuration that merges traditional design with modern refinement. It will be of special interest to SASS Wild Bunch competitors as the rifle is SASS legal and allows the use of the same cartridge in your rifle and pistol, particularly convenient for reloaders.
