Our Assessment: The Browning SA-22 is one of the longest-running semi-automatic rimfire designs in continuous production, originally introduced in the early 20th century and distinguished by its bottom-eject action and takedown configuration. This Grade 6 example reflects Browning’s higher-grade offerings, incorporating factory engraving and elevated wood selection while retaining the proven mechanical layout. Manufactured in 1989 by Miroku in Japan, the rifle represents Browning’s late 20th century production era, known for consistent machining quality and refined fit and finish. The SA-22’s compact profile and tubular magazine housed in the buttstock remain defining features of the model.

This rifle is configured with a 19.25 inch barrel, beaded front sight, flip-up U-notch rear sight, and original blued finish, paired with checkered and polished walnut stocks featuring a semi-pistol grip and straight comb. Approximately 98 percent of the original metal finish remains, with only light scratches and minimal handling wear, and the bluing remains deep and even with factory engraving still crisp and well defined. The bore is bright with sharp rifling and no erosion, showing light fouling near the chamber and rating 9 out of 10, while the stocks show only minor marks with sharp checkering and no structural issues, overall rating Fine. The action functions correctly and no accessories accompany the rifle. Please see our photos for a better understanding of condition and good luck with your bids! -N.P
