Our Assessment: This Winchester Model 1892 Deluxe Takedown is a refined modern interpretation of John M. Browning’s compact lever action design, produced by Miroku in 2021 with a clear emphasis on traditional craftsmanship and deluxe appointments. The Model 1892 was originally engineered as a lighter, stronger action for pistol cartridges, and it quickly earned favor among ranchers, lawmen, and sportsmen for its smooth operation and trim handling. This example elevates that legacy with a takedown configuration and classic octagonal barrel, combining visual authority with practical elegance.
Chambered in .44-40 WCF, the rifle is closely tied to the golden age of Winchester lever guns. Introduced in the 1870s, the .44-40 became one of the most widely used sporting and frontier cartridges of its era, valued for its balanced performance and compatibility across rifles and revolvers. The 24 inch octagonal barrel provides steady balance and a long sight radius, paired with a brass beaded front sight and semi buckhorn rear sight that complement the rifle’s period correct character. Deluxe checkered walnut stocks with capped forend, semi pistol grip, straight comb, and steel shotgun buttplate further reinforce the upscale presentation.
Condition remains excellent overall, with approximately 97 percent of the original metal finish present and only minor operational wear from cycling and takedown. The bore is bright with sharp rifling and rates a full 10 out of 10, and the clear markings and sharp screwheads reflect careful use and maintenance. The color case hardened receiver shows minor scuffing consistent with light handling, adding character without detracting from overall appeal. Complete with its factory box, manual, handouts, and gun lock, this deluxe takedown represents a high quality modern offering from Winchester that faithfully channels the spirit of the original design.
