The wood has been sanded and refinished. The wood shows minor compressions and some surface level lines. There are no chips or cracks. The butt plate has lost its finish and has developed some scattered surface rust. It shows rub wear and dings throughout. The door spring is strong. Overall the stock is in Very Good condition.

Type of Finish: Parkerized

Finish Originality: Original

Bore Condition: The bore is bright and the rifling is very well defined. The grooves show mild visible pitting and erosion throughout the bore. Our gauges show a muzzle of 3 and a throat of 4+. In this writer’s opinion the bore rates 5.5/10.

Overall Condition: This rifle retains about 85% of its metal finish. The friction surfaces of the bolt and receiver show visible rub wear. The majority of the finish loss on this rifle is on the cylinder lock and gas tube with finish thinning throughout the rifle. The finish of the trigger group and receiver have turned slightly green with age. The action is very smooth. The markings are clear and the screw heads are sharp. Overall the rifle is in about Fair+-Good condition.

Mechanics:  The action functions correctly. We did not fire this rifle. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance requirements.

Box, Paperwork & Accessories: This rifle includes a Canvas sling.

Our Assessment: The M1 Garand was the standard U.S. service rifle of World War II and is widely regarded as one of the most influential military rifles of the 20th century. Adopted in 1936, its semi-automatic operation gave American infantry a significant firepower advantage over bolt-action armed adversaries. General George S. Patton famously praised it as “the greatest battle implement ever devised,” a sentiment that reflects the rifle’s proven effectiveness, reliability, and lasting legacy through WWII, Korea, and well into the Cold War era.

This Springfield Armory M1 Garand was manufactured in July of 1944, placing it firmly in the WWII production period. It is fitted with a Springfield barrel dated 8-1950, indicating the rifle was re-barreled during a post-war arsenal rebuild, a common practice as rifles were refurbished for continued service or reserve use. The presence of a lock-bar style rear sight further supports an earlier configuration element retained through rebuild, making this rifle a representative example of a wartime receiver updated for post-WWII service life.
