Our Assessment: The Mauser American Eagle Luger is a postwar commercial production pistol manufactured in the 1970s, reflecting Mauser’s revival of the iconic Luger pattern for the international civilian market. Imported by Interarms, these pistols were produced with modern steels and finishes while preserving the classic P.08 profile, toggle-lock action, and handling characteristics that defined the original design. Chambered in 9mm Luger with a 4 inch barrel, the American Eagle series represents a continuation of German Luger craftsmanship in a non-military context. This model stands as a bridge between historic service pistols and later collector-focused commercial offerings.
This example is configured with a 4 inch barrel, dovetailed blade front sight, fixed U-notch rear sight on the toggle, and original blue and strawed finish. The pistol retains approximately 99 percent of its original metal finish, with only minimal handling marks and a few light surface scratches visible. The bore is bright with sharp rifling and no erosion, showing only light fouling and rating 9 out of 10, while the checkered wood grip panels remain crisp with no chips or cracks, overall rating Excellent. The action functions correctly, and the pistol is accompanied by its wood velvet-lined box, manual, serial-matching test target, two eight-round magazines, Luger tool, and cleaning rod.
