Our Assessment: The Walther P38 is a pivotal German service pistol design adopted during the Second World War, notable for introducing the double action and single action trigger system to widespread military use. Manufactured in September 1943 by Walther under the “ac” wartime code, this example reflects mid-war production when efficiency and output were prioritized while core mechanical standards were maintained. The P38’s falling locking block system and exposed barrel distinguished it from earlier service pistols and influenced postwar handgun development worldwide. This model stands as a representative wartime sidearm of the German armed forces during the height of the conflict.

This example is configured with a 4.75 inch barrel, dovetailed blade front sight, and U-notch rear sight, finished in original blue with matching serialized components. The pistol retains approximately 85 percent of its original metal finish, with thinning, light nicks, and handling wear visible across the slide and frame consistent with service use. The bore is bright with sharp rifling, showing light erosion and fouling and rating 8 out of 10, while the serrated synthetic grip panels show minor wear without chips or cracks, overall rating Fine. The action functions correctly and the pistol is accompanied by one eight-round magazine. Please see our photos for a better understanding of condition and good luck with your bids! -N.P
