Our Assessment: The Remington Model 16 is an early semi-automatic rimfire rifle produced during the formative years of American self-loading sporting arms. Manufactured between 1914 and 1928, the Model 16 was purpose-built around the proprietary .22 Remington Automatic cartridge and utilizes a buttstock-mounted magazine tube with a takedown action. This design reflects Remington’s effort to differentiate its rimfire offerings from competing .22 Long Rifle platforms while emphasizing reliability and controlled feeding. The Model 16 occupies an important place in Remington’s early semi-automatic development during the pre-Depression era.

This example is configured with a 22 inch barrel, beaded front sight, and U-notch rear sight, with the upper tang drilled and tapped, and retains its original blued finish. Approximately 97 percent of the metal finish remains, with light handling wear, scattered scratches, edge thinning on the receiver, and minor oxidation visible, including at the muzzle. The bore is bright with sharp rifling, showing light erosion and pitting toward the muzzle and rating 6 out of 10, while the smooth wood stocks exhibit only light marks and compression with no cracks or chips, overall rating Fine. The action functions correctly and no accessories accompany the rifle. Please see our photos for a better understanding of condition and good luck with your bids! -N.P
