Stock Configuration & Condition: The installed stock on this rifle is an Oval cut, low wood stock with a two rivet handguard, a type two barrel band, and a cross bolt safety. The LOP is 13” from the front of the trigger to the back of the butt plate. This stock has been sanded and refinished. The wood shows scattered lines, compressions, scratches and some blistering in the finish. The sling cut shows some chips missing from the edges. There is a brass repair pin on the right side belly just behind the trigger guard. There are no cracks. The metal butt plate has lost most of its finish, has semi-sharp checkering, wear and scratches around the edges, and some minor surface rust developing. The butt plate is slightly loose. Overall the furniture on this rifle is in Good to Good+ condition.

The additional stock is a Fajen Sporting stock with a Monte Carlo style comb, full cheekpiece, capped semi-pistol grip, a vented metal handguard and a type three barrel band with bayonet lug. The length of pull is closer to 14″. The wood shows compressions, scuffs, rub marks, and some chips from the edges. The toe of the heel appears to have broken off and been reattached at some point. The repair appears to have been well done and is quite hard to see. The plastic serrated butt plate shows minimal wear as does the handguard and the pommel cap. Overall this set is in about Fair+-Good condition.

Type of Finish: Parkerized and blued.

Finish Originality: Original.

Bore Condition: The bore is very bright and the rifling is well defined. There is no pitting/erosion present in the bore. The bore is very clean. In this writer’s opinion the bore rates 9.25/10.

Overall Condition: This rifle retains 88% of its finish. The metal finish has turned green/brown with age. The bolt and receiver show finish loss from rub wear on the friction surfaces. The majority of the finish loss is simply thinning from age throughout the rifle. The metal surfaces show some minor scattered lines with a few rub marks on the barrel. The most notable section is on the right side of the barrel just in front of the stock. The screw heads are sharp and the markings are clear. Overall this rifle is in about Good+ condition.

Mechanics: The action functions correctly. We did not fire this rifle. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance requirements.

Box, Paperwork & Accessories: This rifle includes a hard sided foam padded case, the additional furniture set, a hider flash M3 that shows finish loss and some surface rust, a green canvas US marked zippered rifle case, a green canvas belt mounted dual magazine pouch, field manual, article, 2 x 5 round magazines both in good condition, 3 x 15 round and 1 x 30 round magazines. The 15 & 30 round magazines show finish loss and surface rust. These magazines are in Fair+-Good condition.

Our Assessment: The M1 Carbine was developed to give U.S. forces a lightweight, fast-handling firearm, and Winchester was one of the original and most respected prime contractors. Carbines produced between late 1943 and mid-1944 reflect the height of wartime production, incorporating combat-proven refinements while still retaining strong manufacturer identity. Winchester barrels are especially well regarded, and this example is fitted with a correct Winchester barrel that rates an impressive 9.25/10, with a bright, clean bore that speaks to light use and careful maintenance.

This carbine also offers versatility by including two stocks. The first is a correct mil-spec oval-cut low-wood stock with a wooden handguard, ideal for a classic military configuration. The second is a FAJEN sporting stock featuring a Monte Carlo cheek piece, capped semi-pistol grip, and vented metal handguard, giving the rifle a sporting and range-ready feel. The package is rounded out with an M3 hider flash, six magazines, a belt-mounted dual magazine carrier, and a green canvas zippered rifle case. This is a highly complete and flexible Winchester M1 Carbine setup that appeals equally to collectors, shooters, and those who appreciate both military history and classic aftermarket accessories.
