Markings: The left side of the barrel is marked “NEW FRONTIER .22”. The left side of the frame is marked “PAT. SEPT. 19, 1871 / JULY 2, 72 JAN. 19, 75”, alongside the rampant Colt logo. The top of the barrel is marked “COLT’S PT.F.A. MFG. CO. HARTFORD, CT, U.S.A.”. The bottom of the frame is marked with the serial number “G171786”. One cylinder is marked “22 MAG”, the other is marked “.22 LR”.

Sights / Optics: The front sight is a serrated, ramped blade fixed to the front of the barrel. The rear sight is a square notch adjustable for windage and elevation in a base pinned to the top strap.
Stock Configuration & Condition: The grips are a two-piece checkered black, hard rubber with rampant colt in oval at their tops, and american eagles below. There is very limited handling wear on the grips. The checkering is sharp. The markings are clear. Overall, the grips are in about Excellent condition.

Finish Originality: Original
Bore Condition: The bore is bright and the rifling is sharp. There is no erosion in the bore. There is some fouling present in the bore. In this writer’s opinion, the bore rates at 9/10.
Overall Condition: This revolver retains about 96% of its original metal finish. There are minor signs of handling and storage wear. There are carbon rings on the face of the cylinders. The case color is strong. The screw heads are sharp, pins are unmarred, and the markings are clear and legible. Overall, this revolver rates in about Fine condition.
Mechanics: The action functions correctly. We did not fire this revolver. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance requirements

Our Assessment: The Colt New Frontier represents Colt’s refined, adjustable sight evolution of the classic Single Action Army, introduced to blend traditional single action styling with improved practical accuracy. Distinguished by its flat top frame and fully adjustable rear sight, the New Frontier maintained the familiar SAA profile while offering a more target oriented shooting experience. Produced during Colt’s strong mid 1970s output, this 1976 example reflects a period when Colt continued to emphasize traditional craftsmanship while meeting modern shooter expectations.
Chambered in .22 rimfire and supplied with both .22 Long Rifle and .22 Magnum cylinders, this revolver offers versatility that has long been appreciated by collectors and shooters alike. The 6 inch barrel provides a well balanced feel and a generous sight radius, complemented by the serrated front sight and adjustable rear sight pinned to the top strap. The blue and case colored finish remains attractive, with strong case color and crisp markings that underscore careful handling over its lifetime.
