Our Assessment: The Uberti Henry Navy Arms Model 1860 Iron Frame rifle is a well-executed modern reproduction of one of the most historically significant repeating rifles of the 19th century. Manufactured in 2001 and imported by Navy Arms, this example captures the unmistakable profile and operating system that made the original Henry rifle revolutionary during the Civil War era. The 24 inch barrel, iron frame construction, and exposed tubular magazine with Henry-style follower reflect Uberti’s attention to period-correct details while benefiting from modern materials and machining.

Chambered in .44-40 Winchester, this rifle pairs the classic Henry design with a cartridge long associated with early lever-action rifles and frontier use. The .44-40 offers smooth feeding characteristics and mild recoil, making it well suited to the Henry action in a modern context. The bore on this example is bright with sharp rifling and no visible erosion, rating 9 out of 10, with only very minor fouling present, indicating limited use since manufacture. The rifle is fitted with a tang-mounted peep sight, with the original rear barrel sight removed and the dovetail plugged, giving it a clean sighting arrangement while maintaining a traditional appearance.

Overall condition is very good, with approximately 95 percent of the original blued finish remaining and only light handling marks and scratches visible across the metal surfaces. The markings are crisp, screw heads remain sharp, and the rifle presents as well cared for. The walnut buttstock shows scattered handling wear and compression dents along with a small crack at the toe, but remains solid and visually consistent with careful use. Mechanically, the Henry-style front-loading magazine system is intact and the action functions correctly. As a Navy Arms–marked Uberti Henry 1860 in .44-40, this rifle offers an attractive and historically evocative modern reproduction of one of America’s earliest successful repeating rifles. We are no longer offering layaway. Please see our photos for a better understanding of condition and good luck with your bids! MF
