Our Assessment: The Ruger Precision Rifle represents Ruger’s entry into the precision bolt action market, designed from the outset to support accuracy-focused shooting with modern ergonomics and modularity. Introduced in the mid-2010s, the platform was built to bridge traditional bolt action precision rifles and contemporary chassis-style systems, drawing influence from competition and tactical rifle design. Its folding, adjustable stock and rigid receiver architecture reflect Ruger’s emphasis on adaptability and consistency across a wide range of shooting positions and environments.
Chambered in 5.56 NATO, this example is fitted with a 22 inch target barrel marked accordingly, a configuration that favors velocity retention and practical precision within the limits of the cartridge. The 5.56 NATO round, originally developed for military service, has become a mainstay for training, competition, and varmint applications due to its availability, manageable recoil, and efficiency. The free-floated barrel, factory muzzle brake, and full-length Picatinny rail underscore the rifle’s accuracy-driven design, while compatibility with detachable magazines maintains logistical simplicity.
This rifle presents in very good overall condition, retaining the majority of its original finish with only light storage-related wear noted on the handguard. The bore remains bright with sharp rifling, the markings are crisp, and the included factory magazines and box add to the completeness of the package. Altogether, this Ruger Precision Rifle stands as a solid example of Ruger’s modern precision offering from the late 2010s, combining contemporary features with a well-established cartridge.
