Markings: The left side of the barrel is marked “WINCHESTER ® BIG BORE MODEL 94 XTR – 375 WIN. / –MADE IN NEW HAVEN, CONN. U.S.A. WINCHESTER PROOF STEEL–”. The top rear of the barrel is marked with a circled “WP” proof. The front underside of the receiver is marked with the serial number.
Barrel Length: 20″
Sights / Optics: The front sight is a beaded blade dovetailed to a serrated ramped base fixed to the barrel. The rear sight is a u-notch Williams screwed to the barrel. The left side of the receiver is drilled, tapped, and filled for a receiver sight.
Stock Configuration & Condition: The stocks are two-piece checkered walnut with banded forend, straight grip, straight comb and an orange Winchester buttpad. There are sling mounts installed. The checkering is sharp. There are no chips or cracks. There are a few minor compressions and scratches. The LOP measures 13 1/2″ from the front of the trigger to the back of the buttpad. Overall, the stocks are in about Fine condition.

Bore Condition: The bore is bright and the rifling is sharp. There is no erosion in the bore. There is minor fouling. In this writer’s opinion the bore rates 9/10.
Overall Condition: This rifle retains about 95% of its metal finish. There are scattered minor scratches on the receiver and barrel. The action shows light operational wear. The screw heads are sharp. The markings are clear. Overall, this rifle is in about Fine condition.
Mechanics: The action functions correctly. The trigger pull is crisp. We did not fire this rifle. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance standards.

Our Assessment: The Winchester Model 94 XTR Big Bore represents Winchester’s late 20th century effort to modernize its most iconic lever action while preserving the handling qualities that made the Model 94 famous. Produced between the late 1970s and early 1980s, the Big Bore series incorporated a strengthened receiver and upgraded metallurgy to accommodate higher pressure cartridges, all while retaining the familiar profile and balance of the traditional Model 94. This example, fitted with a 20 inch barrel and factory XTR trim, reflects the era when Winchester was actively bridging classic sporting rifle design with contemporary performance expectations.
The .375 Winchester chambering was introduced as a modernized, high pressure evolution of the venerable .38-55, offering increased velocity and energy in a compact lever action package. Designed for woods hunting and practical field use, the cartridge delivers authoritative performance at moderate ranges without excessive recoil. On this rifle, the bore remains bright with sharp rifling and no visible erosion, rating 9 out of 10, which supports the model’s reputation for durability and consistent accuracy when properly maintained.
Overall condition is strong, with approximately 95 percent of the original blue finish retained and only minor handling marks visible on the barrel and receiver. The checkered walnut stocks with banded forend present cleanly, with sharp checkering and only light compression marks, giving the rifle a refined but still purpose-driven appearance.
