Markings: The barrel is marked “Manufactured by the US Repeating Arms Co, New Haven Conn USA/ Winchester Proof Steel, Especially for Smokeless Powder /30 WCF/1894-1994” The upper tang is marked “Model 1894 Winchester Pat. Aug 21 1894” The receiver is engraved with a Winchester pattern game scene.
Barrel Length: 26″, Half-Octagonal, Half-Round
Sights / Optics: The front sight is a beaded blade dovetailed into the barrel. The rear sight is a spring leaf with elevator that is dovetailed into the barrel. The top tang is drilled and tapped for a peep sight. There is a Lyman peep sight installed.
Stock Configuration & Condition: The stocks are a 2 piece checkered walnut, semi pistol grip, straight comb, with a rifle style crescent buttplate. There is little to no handling wear. Overall these stocks rate in Excellent condition.

Bore Condition: The bore is bright and the rifling is sharp. There is no erosion in the bore. This does not appear to have been fired past the factory test fire. In this writer’s opinion the bore rates 10/10.
Overall Condition: This rifle retains about 98% of its metal finish. There is little to no handling wear. There is little to no operational wear. Overall, this rifle is in Excelent condition.
Mechanics: The action functions correctly. The hammer has a half-cock safety. There is a lever safety. There is a crossbolt safety. The trigger is crisp. We did not fire this rifle. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance standards.

Our Assessment: This Winchester Model 1894 Grade I Centennial Rifle was produced in 1994 to commemorate the 100th anniversary of Winchester’s most iconic sporting arm. Built by U.S. Repeating Arms Company in New Haven, this rifle represents a modern tribute to John M. Browning’s original 1894 design, blending traditional aesthetics with late twentieth century manufacturing precision. The half-octagon, half-round 26 inch barrel and engraved receiver distinguish this Centennial edition from standard production rifles, while still preserving the classic profile and handling characteristics that made the Model 1894 legendary.
Chambered in .30-30 Winchester, the rifle is paired with the cartridge most closely associated with the Model 1894 and North American deer hunting. The bore on this example is bright with sharp rifling and no erosion, showing no evidence of use beyond factory test firing, and in this writer’s opinion rates a perfect 10 out of 10. The rifle retains its original open sights, supplemented by a Lyman tang-mounted peep sight, a period-correct enhancement that complements the rifle’s traditional configuration while offering improved sight alignment.
Overall condition is exceptional. Approximately 98 percent of the original blued finish remains, with virtually no handling or operational wear visible. The engraved receiver remains crisp and well defined, and the checkered walnut stocks show little to no signs of use, retaining sharp checkering and clean edges throughout. Mechanically, the action functions correctly, with the half-cock hammer safety, lever safety, and crossbolt safety all operating as intended, and the trigger breaking cleanly. With its original box included and outstanding overall presentation, this Grade I Centennial Model 1894 stands as a highly desirable commemorative rifle that honors Winchester’s legacy while offering near-new condition appeal to collectors and enthusiasts alike.
