Our Assessment: The Winchester Model 94AE represents the later evolution of the legendary Model 1894 design, incorporating the Angle Eject system introduced in the 1980s to better accommodate optics mounting. By the mid-1990s, the 94AE had become the standard configuration for modern production, allowing shooters to mount scopes more conveniently while retaining the traditional handling characteristics that defined the Model 94 for generations. Produced in New Haven, Connecticut, this rifle reflects Winchester’s late 20th century lever-action heritage.
Chambered in .307 Winchester, this rifle is built around a cartridge introduced in the early 1980s specifically for use in lever-action rifles. The .307 Winchester was designed to deliver performance comparable to the .308 Winchester in a rimmed case suitable for tubular magazine feeding, offering strong ballistic capability within the lever-action format. The 20 inch barrel maintains the classic carbine profile, while the drilled and tapped receiver provides flexibility for modern optics without sacrificing the traditional iron sight arrangement.
This example presents in fine overall condition, retaining nearly all of its original blued finish with only minimal handling marks visible. The bore remains bright with sharp rifling, the walnut stocks are clean and well fitted, and the action functions correctly with both safety systems operating as intended. Overall, this Winchester Model 94AE stands as a well-preserved example of a 1990s New Haven-produced lever-action rifle chambered in one of Winchester’s more specialized modern cartridges.
