Our Assessment: This Ruger New Model Blackhawk chambered in .30 Carbine represents one of Ruger’s more distinctive and enduring single action revolver offerings, pairing a classic sixgun platform with a high velocity military cartridge. Introduced in the late 1960s and continuing through later production, the .30 Carbine Blackhawk became known for its flat shooting performance and unmistakable report. Manufactured in 1983, this example incorporates Ruger’s New Model transfer bar safety system, allowing safe carry with all six chambers loaded while retaining traditional single action operation and rugged construction. The 7.5 inch barrel provides excellent balance and maximizes the ballistic potential of the .30 Carbine cartridge, which delivers notably higher velocities than most traditional revolver rounds. The bore is bright with sharp rifling and no erosion, rating a strong 9.5 out of 10. Original adjustable sights remain intact, with a serrated ramp front blade and square notch rear adjustable for windage and elevation, offering a clear and practical sight picture well suited to the cartridge’s trajectory.
Overall condition is excellent, with approximately 99 percent of the original blued finish retained. A crisp cylinder turn line and light burn marks on the cylinder face are present, consistent with limited use. The walnut grips with Ruger medallions show minimal handling marks and remain free of chips or cracks, presenting in Excellent condition. Markings are clear, screw heads are sharp, and pins remain undamaged. Taken as a whole, this New Model Blackhawk stands as a clean and well preserved example of Ruger’s .30 Carbine revolver, combining strong mechanical integrity, excellent condition, and a uniquely spirited chambering. -R.E.
