Our Assessment: The Colt King Cobra was introduced during the late 1980s as Colt’s modern stainless steel .357 Magnum revolver, intended to provide strength, durability, and reliable double action performance in a contemporary package. Built on Colt’s robust “V” frame, the King Cobra was positioned as a practical magnum revolver that retained Colt’s traditional action quality while embracing stainless steel construction for improved corrosion resistance. By the mid 1990s, the model had become a well regarded part of Colt’s revolver lineup, reflecting the company’s final generation of large frame double action revolver production.
This 1995 example features the desirable 6 inch barrel, offering excellent balance and a long sight radius well suited to deliberate shooting. The stainless steel finish presents attractively, highlighted by the distinctive KING COBRA barrel marking with engraved cobra head, a visual signature unique to the model. The adjustable rear sight and pinned front sight with orange insert provide a clear and practical sight picture, while the matte finished rib and top strap reduce glare and enhance usability.
Overall condition remains strong, with high finish retention, clear markings, and a bright, sharply rifled bore. Normal signs of use such as a cylinder turn line and light handling marks are consistent with careful ownership. The inclusion of the original blue hard case and paperwork adds completeness and appeal. Taken together, this Colt King Cobra stands as a solid example of Colt’s late 20th century revolver craftsmanship, combining stainless steel durability, classic Colt styling, and proven .357 Magnum performance.
