Overall Condition: This rifle retains about 97% of its original metal finish. The balance of the finish shows operational wear and thinning of the finish on the bolt body. There are a few light scratches and nicks on the right side of the receiver. Otherwise, the bluing on the receiver is deep and dark throughout. The carbon fiber wrapped barrel shows no notable wear. The markings are clear and legible. The screw heads are sharp. Overall, this rifle rates in Very Good to Fine condition.

Mechanics: The action functions correctly, as does the safety. The Timney Trigger has a light, crisp, and clean break. We did not fire this rifle, but we did perform a mechanic’s check. The bottom metal is SOL Strategic standard M5, compatible with AI-pattern magazines. The magazine release is on the front of the trigger guard. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance requirements.

Box, Paperwork & Accessories: This rifle comes with the optic and magazine as mentioned above.

Our Assessment: Custom rifles built around the Remington 700 action have long been a foundation of American precision shooting, and this Owens Armory carbon-wrapped .223 is a strong example of how modern materials and modular components have elevated the platform far beyond its 1962 origins. Owens Armory barrels are known for their stiffness-to-weight ratio and excellent thermal characteristics, and the 20-inch Sendero-contour carbon wrapped barrel on this rifle delivers the rigidity of a heavy steel barrel without the bulk. Combined with the 1:8 twist rate, optimized for heavier .223 projectiles, this build aligns squarely with contemporary predator, varmint, and general-purpose field applications where accuracy, portability, and quick handling matter.

The .223 Remington cartridge, introduced in the early 1960s and later standardized as 5.56 NATO, remains one of the most versatile small-bore centerfire rounds in existence. Its flat trajectory, low recoil, and broad range of bullet weights make it equally suitable for varmints, predators, and practical rifle work. This rifle’s bore condition and tight overall mechanical presentation suggest a system capable of excellent precision when paired with quality ammunition, and the inclusion of an AI-pattern detachable magazine system adds significant functional value for field use or long-range target shooting.

Overall, this is a thoughtfully built custom 700 that balances lightweight components, modern ergonomics, and a clean, reliable trigger pull. The carbon stock and barrel make it exceptionally easy to carry, while the ATN day/night optic broadens its use window into low-light conditions. For shooters seeking a modernized, accurate, and field-ready .223 Remington on a proven action, this rifle stands out as a capable and appealing choice.
