Stock Configuration & Condition: The wood stock has a semi-pistol grip, metal nose caps, stacking loop, double sling loops, and a metal butt plate with hinged door for storage. The LOP measures 13.25” from the front of the trigger to the back of the butt plate. The wood shows compressions, dry spots and some scratches. The most notable issue is the very large chip missing from the upper handguard on the left hand side. The butt plate has some dents and has been refinished. The butt contains the cleaning kit. The door spring is strong. Overall the stock is in about Good condition.

Type of Finish:  Parkerized

Finish Originality: Refinished

Bore Condition: The bore is bright and the rifling is well defined. There is mild erosion/pitting throughout the bore. According to our gauges the muzzle reads at a 2, the throat erosion reads at a 2. In this writer’s opinion the bore rates 8/10. It should also be stated that There is a known issue with Blue Sky imported guns in that sometimes they stamped the import mark so deep it took the barrel out of round. Before firing this rifle please have it evaluated by a competent gunsmith.

Overall Condition: This rifle retains 96% of its metal finish. The gas plug, gas cylinder and the exposed portion of the barrel show the majority of the finish loss. The friction surfaces of the bolt and receiver show very little rub wear. The metal nose cap for the stock is loose and will fall off if the rifle is removed from the stock. The ring for the stacking loop shows some surface rust. The markings are mostly clear and the screw heads range from sharp to slightly tool marked. Overall this rifle is in about Good condition.

Mechanics:  The action functions correctly. We did not fire this rifle.  As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance requirements.

Box, Paperwork & Accessories: This rifle includes a green canvas sling and the cleaning kit in the butt.

Our Assessment: The M1 Garand is one of the most important U.S. military rifles of the 20th century, adopted in 1936 and famously serving as America’s standard service rifle throughout World War II. Early Springfield Armory production rifles from 1942 represent the critical wartime ramp-up period, when the Garand was proving itself in combat and production was accelerating to meet global demand. After World War II, many rifles remained in service through Korea and beyond, undergoing arsenal rebuilds and re-barreling programs to keep them serviceable for continued military use.

This Springfield Armory M1 Garand was originally manufactured in 1942 and later re-barreled with a Winchester barrel dated February 1967, reflecting a post-war overhaul consistent with long-term U.S. military maintenance practices. The Winchester barrel indicates continued service or reserve use during the Cold War era, when older receivers were commonly updated with newer barrels to extend their operational life. The result is a classic early-war Springfield receiver paired with a later, high-quality Winchester barrel, making this rifle a solid shooter and a representative example of the Garand’s long and evolving service history.
