Our Assessment: This Ruger M77 Mark II dates to 2005 production and represents the mature form of Ruger’s long-running controlled-round-feed sporting bolt-action line. The M77 Mark II is widely respected for its Mauser-inspired extractor, integral scope ring system, and robust field reliability, making it a favored choice among hunters who value mechanical strength and straightforward operation. Finished in classic blued steel and walnut, this example reflects Ruger’s continued commitment to traditional sporting rifle aesthetics well into the modern era.
Chambered in 6.5x55mm Swedish Mauser, the rifle is paired with a 22 inch barrel that suits the cartridge’s reputation for efficiency, mild recoil, and excellent ballistic performance. Developed in the late 19th century and still widely respected today, the 6.5×55 is known for deep penetration and accuracy on deer-sized game and beyond. The bore on this example is exceptionally strong, remaining bright with sharp rifling and no erosion, suggesting very limited use beyond possible factory testing. Ruger’s proprietary scope ring cuts are intact, and the included factory rings preserve the rifle’s clean, uncluttered profile.
Overall, this rifle presents in excellent condition, retaining approximately 99 percent of its original blued finish with only negligible operational wear visible. The checkered walnut stock remains crisp and well preserved, showing only a few minor handling marks and no structural issues. Mechanically sound with a properly functioning tang safety and smooth bolt operation, this M77 Mark II stands as a high-condition example of a modern classic sporting rifle from Sturm, Ruger & Co., offering a desirable chambering, traditional build quality, and near-new presentation.
