Stock Configuration & Condition:  The wood stock has a traditional Semi-pistol grip, metal nose caps, two sling loops, stacking ring, and a checkered metal butt plate with storage compartment.  The LOP measures 13” inches from the front of the trigger to the back of the butt plate. The wood has been sanded and refinished and the finish has spilled over onto some of the metal. The finish shows some minor compressions, surface level lines, and a few small chips. The most notable chip is on the right side of the stock just in front of the op-rod. There are no cracks. The metal butt plate has been re-finished and shows some rub wear around the edges with some semi-sharp checkering. The door spring is strong. Overall the stock is in Good+ condition.

Type of Finish: Parkerized

Finish Originality: Re-finished

Bore Condition: The bore is very bright and the rifling is well defined. There is no visible pitting or erosion. Our gauges show a muzzle of 1 and a throat of 2. In this writer’s opinion the bore rates 9.25/10.

Overall Condition: This rifle retains about 97% of its metal finish. The friction surfaces of the bolt and receiver show very minor rub wear. The majority of the finish loss on this rifle is thinning on the receiver and trigger group. The finish of the trigger group and receiver have turned brown/green with age. As stated earlier there is finish from the stock on some of the metal parts of the rifle.  The markings are clear and the screw heads are sharp. Overall the rifle is in about Good+ condition however it would rate higher if not for the finish bleed over.

Mechanics:  The action functions correctly. We did not fire this rifle. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance requirements.

Box, Paperwork & Accessories: This rifle includes the leather sling.

Our Assessment: The M1 Garand remained in U.S. service well after World War II, seeing continued use through the Korean War and into the early Cold War period. Springfield Armory receivers produced between 1952 and 1954 represent late-production U.S. military manufacture, built with the benefit of wartime experience and intended for long-term service and training roles. Many of these rifles were updated multiple times during their lifespan as the Army and allied forces kept the Garand current.

This example features a Springfield Armory receiver from the 1952-1954 period paired with a Springfield barrel dated March 1963, a typical pairing from an arsenal re-barrel intended to extend service life. The stock has been bedded and refinished, a modification often done to improve accuracy and consistency. The result is a mechanically sound, late-production Garand configured as a solid shooter that reflects the M1’s post-war evolution rather than a strict factory-original configuration.
