Our Assessment: This Remington Model 700 Police LTR represents a purpose-built law enforcement and precision-oriented variant of one of the most influential bolt-action rifle platforms ever produced. Developed to provide a compact, maneuverable precision rifle, the LTR combined the proven Model 700 action with a shorter heavy barrel and a rigid synthetic stock suited to hard use. The Police series earned widespread adoption among law enforcement agencies and precision shooters due to its consistency, durability, and accuracy potential, and the LTR configuration in particular emphasized balance and portability without sacrificing performance.
Chambered in .223 Remington and fitted with a 20 inch barrel, this rifle is well suited to controlled, accurate fire with modest recoil and excellent barrel life. The .223 Remington cartridge has long been valued in precision and tactical roles for its inherent accuracy, manageable recoil impulse, and wide ammunition availability. The bright bore with mostly sharp rifling and minimal erosion supports continued accuracy, while the mounted Leupold VX-II 3–9×40 Tactical optic reflects a practical, period-correct setup commonly seen on duty and precision rifles of this type.
Overall, this example presents in very good condition, retaining approximately 95 percent of its original matte blued finish with only light handling and operational wear visible. The solid fiberglass stock remains structurally sound with only minor signs of use, and the hinged floorplate internal magazine system remains correct for the model. Mechanically, the action cycles smoothly and the trigger exhibits a clean, crisp break. As configured, this rifle stands as a capable and well-preserved example of the Model 700 Police LTR, showcasing the precision-focused design philosophy that helped cement the legacy of Remington Arms’s flagship bolt-action rifle.
