Action Type:  Semi-Auto, Hammer Fired, fed by detachable magazines. 

Markings:  The left side of the slide is marked, “ SMITH & WESSON” and with a Marcas Registradas.  The left side of the frame is marked, “TCW4567 / MOD 4506”.   The right side of the frame has the S&W trademark logo. The barrel hood is marked, “.45 AUTO”.

Barrel Length:  5” 

Sights / Optics:  The front sight is a Novak Patridge style dovetailed to the slide with a white dot. The rear sight is Novak square notch style with two white dots, dovetailed to the slide.

Stock Configuration & Condition:  The grip is a single piece checkered polymer. There is little-to-no handling wear.  The checkering is sharp.  There are no chips or cracks.  Overall the grip rates an Excellent condition.  

Magazine Quantity & Condition:  This pistol includes 2x 8 round magazines in Excellent condition.

Bore Condition:  The bore is bright and the rifling is sharp. There is no visible erosion in the bore, but there appears to be some stubborn fouling.  In this writer’s opinion the bore rates 9/10.  The feed ramp is smooth.

Overall Condition:  This stainless finish shows light handling wear.  There are small scratches throughout.  The action has light wear from use.  The markings are crisp, and the pins are unmarred.  Overall, this handgun rates an Excellent Condition.  

Mechanics:  The action functions correctly.  We did not fire this handgun. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance requirements. 

Box, Paperwork & Accessories: This pistol comes with 2 magazines, paperwork, and the original factory box.

Our Assessment:  Smith & Wesson’s top competitive shooter and design consultant—Tom Campbell—was winning IPSC matches with Colt 1911s.  One can see the PR problem here.  So S&W let their design consultant design his own.  He started with their 9mm offering, the 439/459, and built it into something that only outwardly resembled the 1911.  He called it the “Super Gun”.  He won IPSG matches with it.  And the Model 645 was born.  It graced many episodes of Miami Vice, for those old enough to remember.

Second generation 645 became Third generation 4506 (and made the last two Miami Vice Seasons) and was produced 1988-1999.
