Our Assessment: Marlin’s modern 1895 Trapper reflects the resurgence of big-bore lever guns in the 21st century, pairing a classic 19th-century design with materials and features for contemporary field use. Though the Trapper follows the familiar profile of the original 1895, its stainless-steel construction, threaded 16-inch barrel, and Skinner Trapper rail bring the platform decisively into the modern era. Compact, weather-resistant, and fast-handling, the Trapper embodies the longstanding Marlin tradition of rugged working rifles adapted for dense timber, backcountry carry, and general-purpose utility.

Chambered in .45-70 Government, a cartridge introduced in 1873 and renowned for its versatility in both black powder and smokeless loadings, the rifle maintains the authoritative performance that made the 1895 line a favorite among sportsmen for generations. The bore in this example is outstanding, the stainless finish shows minimal wear, and the laminate stocks retain sharp checkering and excellent fit. With its short barrel, threaded muzzle, and ghost-ring-style sighting system, this Trapper stands as a refined interpretation of an enduring American lever gun.
