Our Assessment: Winchester’s Model 70 Classic Stainless line combines the legendary controlled-round-feed action with corrosion-resistant construction, making it one of the most trusted modern bolt rifles for demanding big-game hunting. Chambered in .338 Winchester Magnum, a cartridge introduced in 1958 and widely regarded as one of the most versatile and effective elk, moose, and large-game rounds ever developed, this rifle is purpose-built for hunters who venture into rough terrain and require consistent performance regardless of weather or distance. The 26-inch stainless barrel maximizes velocity and energy, making full use of the .338 Win. Mag.’s ballistic potential.

This example remains in outstanding condition throughout. The stainless metalwork retains roughly 99 percent of its finish with only minor handling marks, and the bolt’s jeweling is bright and vivid. The synthetic stock shows minimal wear and maintains excellent checkering, tight fitment, and structural integrity. The bore is pristine; sharp, bright, and erosion-free, affirming that this rifle’s accuracy potential is fully intact.

Equipped with a Leupold Vari-X III 4.5-14x scope, the rifle is extremely well suited for long-range hunting scenarios. The optic’s magnification range complements the .338 Win. Mag.’s capability for open-country shooting, while still allowing quick target acquisition at closer ranges. Mechanically, the action cycles smoothly with strong CRF extraction and proper safety function.

With its exceptional condition, premium optic, and proven cartridge, this Model 70 Classic Stainless stands as both a serious hunting tool and a desirable example of late New Haven production quality. Please see our photos and good luck on your bid! – J.D.
