Our Assessment: The Winchester Model 1895 occupies a unique place in lever action history as John Moses Browning’s final lever rifle design for Winchester and the company’s first to successfully handle modern smokeless powder cartridges. Introduced at the close of the nineteenth century, the Model 1895 departed from traditional tubular magazine designs in favor of an internal box magazine, allowing the safe use of spitzer bullets and high intensity cartridges. Modern Miroku produced examples such as this one faithfully recreate the mechanical sophistication and profile of the original while delivering modern fit, finish, and metallurgy.

Chambered in .30-06 Springfield, the rifle is paired with one of the most important military and sporting cartridges of the twentieth century, adopted by the U.S. Army in 1906 and later proven worldwide in both service and sporting roles. The .30-06 offers broad ballistic versatility and excellent performance from the 24 inch barrel, while the internal box magazine preserves the Model 1895’s distinctive lines and functionality. The factory style sights and crisp lever action reinforce the rifle’s practical sporting heritage, while the engraved receiver elevates the presentation well beyond a standard production example.

This rifle retains approximately 99 percent of its original blued finish, with only faint handling lines visible on the lever and magazine surfaces. The bore is bright with sharp rifling and no visible erosion, rating 10 out of 10 in this writer’s opinion and showing no indication of use beyond factory test firing. The checkered walnut stocks remain in Excellent condition with sharp checkering, clean edges, and only very minor surface scuffs. Markings are crisp, screw heads are sharp, and the action functions correctly with a rebounding hammer and tang safety. Overall, this engraved Winchester Model 1895 represents a superb modern interpretation of a historically significant lever action rifle, combining classic design, refined presentation, and near new condition throughout.
