Our Assessment: This rifle is a purpose built target configuration assembled on a desirable mid 1950s Model 70 action and fitted with an aftermarket heavy contour barrel. The long, substantial barrel gives the rifle a commanding bench focused profile and supports steady harmonics and consistent point of impact. The overall presentation reflects a period correct custom build ethos, emphasizing precision and stability over lightweight field handling.

Mechanically, the rifle functions correctly. The Model 70 action cycles smoothly with positive lockup and controlled round feed reliability, traits that made this platform a favorite foundation for custom target and competition rifles during the 1950s and 1960s. Balance favors supported shooting, and the heavy barrel configuration is clearly oriented toward deliberate, accuracy focused use.

As a 1955 C&R eligible Model 70 action built into a dedicated target rifle, this example represents the strong tradition of American custom bolt action target rifles. It combines the legendary Model 70 action with a heavy barrel configuration intended for precision shooting, making it an appealing piece for those who value period custom work and classic target rifle design.
