The LOP measures 13 5/8″ from the front of the trigger to the back of the buttplate. The stocks show light wear, with only a few scattered light scratches and dings throughout. The checkering is well defined, with sharp peaks. The stocks’ finish is intact, and the wood grain is attractive. The stocks fit tightly to the frame with no play. There are no chips or cracks. Overall, the stocks rate in Very Good to Fine condition.

Bore Condition: The bore is bright with sharp rifling. There is no erosion in the bore, but there is some minor fouling present. In this writer’s opinion, the bore rates 10/10.
Overall Condition: This rifle retains about 98% of its original metal finish. The balance of the finish shows light handling wear, and a few minor freckles of surface corrosion scattered throughout the metal surfaces. The bluing is deep and dark throughout. The markings are clear and legible. The screw heads are sharp. Overall, this rifle rates in Very Good condition.
Mechanics: The action functions correctly. We did not fire this rifle, but we did perform a mechanic’s check. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance requirements.
Box, Paperwork & Accessories: None.
Our Assessment: Winchester’s Model 9422 is widely regarded as one of the finest rimfire lever-action rifles ever produced, combining exceptionally smooth handling with high-grade machining and fit characteristic of Winchester’s New Haven factory in the 1970s–1990s. By 1989, the production year of this rifle, the 9422 had already established itself as a premium small-game and plinking rifle, admired for its robust all-steel construction, excellent accuracy, and centerfire-like action feel. Today, these rifles are highly sought after by collectors and shooters alike due to their enduring quality and the end of U.S. production in 2005.
This example presents beautifully. The rifle retains deep, even bluing with only minor freckles and light handling marks. The walnut stock set is tight, well-figured, and clean, showing only minimal cosmetic wear with sharp checkering still present. Mechanically, the action remains smooth, the trigger breaks cleanly, and the bore is outstanding; bright, sharp, and erosion-free, a hallmark of rifles that have seen minimal use and proper care.
Chambered for .22 Short, Long, and Long Rifle, the 9422 offers exceptional versatility. Its combination of traditional lever-action heritage and refined modern construction makes it a favorite for small-game hunting, recreational shooting, or simply as a handsome collectible. With its excellent metal finish, strong wood, top-tier condition, and classic Winchester build quality, this 1989 Model 9422 is an exceptional example of one of the finest rimfire lever guns America ever produced.
