Sights / Optics:  The front sight is a blade set between two protective wings. The rear sight is a fully adjustable aperture sight set between two protective wings. The windage knob is marked “LEFT arrow” twice and “DRC”.  The elevation knob is marked from “2-12” in increments of two and “NHC”. 

Stock Configuration & Condition:  This CMP replacement stock set has a traditional semi-pistol grip, metal nose caps, a stacking loop, two sling loops and a metal butt plate with hinged door for storing the included cleaning kit in the butt.  The LOP measures 13.25 inches from the front of the trigger to the back of the butt plate. The stock has a two en bloc carrier mounted to it. The wood shows minor handling with no notable wear or marks. The butt plate shows some minor surface rust in the recesses of the door and checkering. This stock set would rate in Like New condition if not for the surface rust on the butt plate.   

Type of Finish:  Parkerized

Finish Originality: The replacement parts have their original finish while the GI parts have been refinished. 

Bore Condition: The bore is very bright and the rifling is sharp. Our gauges show a muzzle of 0 and a throat erosion of 0. In this writer’s opinion the bore rates 10/10. 

Overall Condition: This rifle retains 99% of its metal finish. The bolt shows some barely visible rub wear on the friction surfaces. The markings are clear and the screw heads are mostly sharp. The bottom screw on the butt has some tool marks. As stated above with the exception of the surface rust on the butt plate this rifle is in Like New condition. 

Mechanics:  The action functions correctly. We did not fire this rifle.  As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance requirements.

Box, Paperwork & Accessories:  This rifle includes a green CMP hard case with foam, bore tube, muzzle cover, US marked canvas muzzle cover, cleaning kit with metal oiler tube, en bloc carrier, sling, CMP certificate of authenticity, Two EN bloc clips and purchase sheet. 

Our Assessment: This Springfield M1 Garand represents one of the finest ways to own the iconic U.S. service rifle, offered as a CMP Special Grade and sold by the Civilian Marksmanship Program in 2014. The receiver dates to January 1944, pairing genuine WWII-era Springfield production with a modern CBI barrel dated 2013, providing excellent accuracy and long service life. The rifle is fitted with a new-production CMP replacement walnut furniture set, giving it a crisp, uniform appearance that closely mirrors how a factory-new Garand would have looked when originally issued.
