Our Assessment: This Shiloh Sharps 1874 “Civilian” carbine, produced in Farmingdale, NY and likely built in the 1980s, offers a trim and highly shootable interpretation of the classic Sharps carbine pattern. Unlike the military configuration, this version features a 26″ round barrel chambered in .45-70, equipped with a brass blade front sight and a semi-buckhorn rear sight with a flip-up ladder for extended-range work. Its clean profile omits the barrel band found on military guns, giving the rifle a sleeker, more refined appearance while maintaining the rugged Sharps action that shooters prize.

Furniture on this example is smooth walnut with a splinter-style forend and straight-grip stock, forgoing the military patch box and saddle ring in favor of a more streamlined civilian presentation. Shiloh Sharps rifles from the Farmingdale era have earned a strong reputation for hand-fitted quality, excellent barrels, and faithful adherence to 19th-century design principles. Altogether, this carbine delivers the aesthetic and historical appeal of the 1874 Sharps while offering a lighter, more elegant configuration ideal for both shooters and collectors who appreciate the iconic frontier-era single-shot.
