Our Assessment: Pedersoli’s Pattern 1853 Enfield reproduction stands among the most faithful and well-crafted modern renditions of one of the 19th century’s most influential military rifles. The original P1853 Enfield served widely in the Crimean War, throughout the British Empire, and on both sides of the American Civil War, earning a reputation for accuracy, reliability, and battlefield practicality. This 2012 Pedersoli example reflects that heritage with correct three-band architecture, a 39-inch barrel, and lockplate markings styled after the 1861 Tower pattern. The rifle’s fit, finish, and walnut stock profile replicate the handling characteristics of the historic rifle-musket, offering shooters and collectors a high-grade reproduction suitable for reenactment, display, or black-powder shooting.

The .577 caliber rifled bore—designed originally for elongated Minié-type projectiles—was central to the Enfield’s accuracy advantage in its era, and this example exhibits a pristine 10/10 bore with bright lands and sharp grooves. The rifle appears unfired, with only trace evidence of handling, indicating that it has been preserved with exceptional care since production. The crisp stair-step rear sight, correct front blade, and clear Italian proof markings further speak to Pedersoli’s precise manufacturing standards. As a result, this rifle offers both historical authenticity and modern craftsmanship, capturing the ballistic character and mechanical simplicity that defined mid-19th-century military small arms.

Cosmetically, the rifle retains approximately 99 percent of its metal finish, with only a few isolated handling marks and a small pitted spot on the barrel. The walnut stock is equally well preserved, showing only a single notable ding and otherwise presenting in Very Fine condition. Mechanically, the lock functions properly and the rifle remains fully serviceable as a black-powder muzzleloader should the next owner wish to shoot it. Paired with its included bayonet, this Pedersoli 1853 Enfield is a striking, high-condition example of one of the most historically significant rifle-muskets ever produced. Please see our photos and good luck on your bid. MF
