Our Assessment: The 1875 Schofield revolver holds a special place in the evolution of American military and frontier firearms. Originally designed as an improvement to the Smith & Wesson No. 3, the Schofield’s break-top design with automatic ejection proved faster to reload than Colt’s gate-loading Single Action Army, making it popular among cavalrymen and lawmen in the post-Civil War West.
This particular revolver is a faithful reproduction by Uberti, imported by Navy Arms Co. in 1995, chambered in the classic .45 Colt cartridge. It offers the same top-break design and 7-inch barrel length as the original military-issued Schofields. The blued finish, color case hardened accents, and walnut grips all combine to recreate the visual and mechanical authenticity collectors and cowboy action shooters crave.
For the shooter, it provides smooth single-action operation and excellent balance. For the collector, it’s a sharp, Fine example of a discontinued model from one of the premier Italian reproduction makers. This 1875 Schofield in Fine condition is an ideal addition for any Western enthusiast, SASS competitor, or historical firearm collector.
