Our Assessment: The Walther P38-K is one of the most distinctive postwar variants of the famous P.38 lineage, produced in small numbers during the late 1970s with a remarkably short 2.75-inch barrel and no front slide extension—giving it a compact, nearly snub-nosed profile that sets it apart from all standard production P.38 and P1 models. This 1977 example retains about 98% of its finish with only light handling wear, sharp markings, and clean edges, while the grips show honest use but remain solid. The bore is bright with defined rifling and moderate fouling, consistent with a pistol that has seen limited but normal shooting use. Mechanically, it functions properly with the traditional Walther DA/SA system and slide-mounted decocker, maintaining the reliability for which the platform is known. Compact, uncommon, and mechanically sound, this P38-K represents an unusual and collectible variant for Walther enthusiasts and Cold War–era handgun collectors alike.
