Caliber: 5.56 x 45mm NATO
Action Type: Semi-Automatic, short stroke gas piston, forward ejecting, Rifle fed by detachable GI pattern magazines.
Markings: Most of the markings have been covered up or obscured by the Digi-cam. The serial number is visible on the left side of the rear sight wings. The left flank of the stock “FN HERSTAL BELGIUM FS2000 cal. 5.56 x 45 / FN USA FREDRICKSBURG VA”.
Barrel Length: 17.4”, 19.5” with the Yankee Hill flash hiding Suppressor host.
Sights / Optics: The front sight is an elevation adjustable post set between two protective wings and mounted to the picatinny rail. The rear sight is a windage adjustable flip up peep sight. The top of the receiver has an integrated 9” section of picatinny rail for the mounting of optics. The picatinny rail currently has what appears to be a genuine EOTECH holographic sight mounted to it that uses 123A batteries. Unfortunately the springs in the battery compartment were broken so I was unable to test the sight to verify if the sight is functional. Visually the sight appears to be in good condition. However as stated a new battery compartment will need to be installed.
Stock Configuration & Condition: The stock is a Polymer thumbhole bullpup design stock, with a finger groove forend, side mounted charging handle, molded-in rear sling attachment points, rubber buttpad, and fully ambidextrous controls. This version of the FS2000 also has a tri-rail picatinny forend currently mounted with an AFG. The rifle has been fully rattle can painted so the actual condition of the polymer under the paint is hard to verify. The butt pad shows little to now wear. The magazine well shows very little rub wear. At the time of inspection I see no cracks or chips in the polymer. The AFG shows rub wear on some of the edges. With the noted visual limitations in mind the rifle appears in Very Good condition.
Magazine Quantity & Condition: None.
Type of Finish: Rattle Can spray paint using a Digi-cam painting kit.
Finish Originality: Refinished.
Bore Condition: The bore is bright and the rifling is sharp. There is no visible erosion in the bore. The feed ramps are smooth and shiny showing copper and carbon fouling. In this writer’s opinion the bore rates 9/10.
Overall Condition: At the risk of being redundant, the rifle appears to be in Very Good condition. Although it is hard to tell through the paint. The ladder style rail covers show some wear. The action cycles smoothly, and functions correctly. The door spring for the inspection port is strong. The magazine well gasket is gone. There appears to be a rattle coming from near the butt of the rifle. The magazine release functions correctly. I tested it with a GI Mag.
Mechanics: The action functions correctly. We did not fire this rifle. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance requirements. This rifle features a unique forward ejection system, ambi controls, and a surprisingly good trigger with a very short re-set especially for a bullpup pattern rifle.
Box, Paperwork & Accessories: This rifle includes the attached EOTECH optic.
Our Assessment: The FN Herstal F2000 is a one of a kind bullpup rifle originally designed in 1995 for the military and later introduced as the FS2000 in 2006 as a civilian version. The FS2000 affectionately nicknamed the Tactical Tuna stands out due to its unique design, advanced features, and futuristic appearance. This rifle was made famous not only being used in Movies Like “The Hunger Games” and the Call of Duty first person shooter franchise but also as the primary weapon in the video game series “Splinter Cell”.
The FS2000 is chambered in 5.56x45mm NATO, a common and widely available cartridge used in many modern rifles. The bullpup configuration of the FS2000 places the action and magazine behind the trigger, resulting in a shorter overall length without sacrificing barrel length. This makes the rifle more compact and maneuverable, particularly in confined spaces, while still maintaining the accuracy and ballistic performance of a full-length barrel. The FS2000 has a 17.44-inch barrel, which contributes to its effective range and accuracy. The most unique feature of the rifle is its forward ejection system that expels spent casings through a port located above the right side of the muzzle end of the barrel, preventing ejected brass from interfering with the shooter or those nearby. This design feature enhances the rifle’s usability in various shooting positions and confined environments. The FS2000 uses only STANAG or GI pattern magazines due to another unique feature, a rubber gasket that seals off the magazine well from dirt and debris. The top of the action also has what has come to be known as the “toilet bowl” a flip up lid that allows the shooter to visually inspect the sealed chamber without having to rotate the rifle.
Let’s face it the FS2000 is one of the most iconic, futuristic, and tacticool looking and functioning rifles in existence today. The bullpup design, one of a kind features, prolific use in movies and video games have made this rifle not only a top tier choice in the realm of bullpups but a living legend. After being discontinued these rifles have become rare. Don’t miss out on the opportunity to say “This is my fish gun…there are very few like it…and this fish gun is mine!!!”.
