Markings: The left side of the barrel is marked “CAL .30-06 Spr. / MADE IN GERMANY”  The left side of the receiver is marked “ N11311 , SAUER 202 , SIGARMS INC., EXETER, N.H.” The right side of the barrel is marked with the serial number “N11311” and various proof marks. 

Barrel Length: 24 inches 

Sights / Optics:  The barrel is tapped and filled with screws at the muzzle and for a rear iron sight.  The receiver is fitted with a two-piece set of Burris scope rings. 

Stock Configuration & Condition: The stock is a one-piece checkered high gloss, high grade walnut, with pistol grip, fluted raised comb, Schnabel Forearm, rubber buttpad, and front and rear sling loops. The LOP measures 13 7/8″ from the front of the trigger to the back of the buttpad. The stock shows minimal signs of wear, with a very few scattered scratches or compression dings. The stock fits the barreled action tightly, with no play. There are no chips or cracks. Overall, the stock rates in Excellent condition. 

Type of Finish: Blued 

Finish Originality: Original

Bore Condition: The bore is mirror bright with sharp rifling. There is no erosion in the bore. In this writer’s opinion, the bore rates 9/10. 

Overall Condition: This rifle retains about 99% of its original metal finish. The balance of the finish shows very limited operational or storage wear. The bluing is deep and dark throughout the barrel and receiver. The markings are clear and legible. The screw heads are sharp. Overall, this rifle rates in Excellent condition. 

Mechanics: The action functions correctly, as does the safety. The safety mechanism on these rifles takes a bit of getting used to as the catch is somewhat unique in its design. The safe position is deployed by depressing the button at the top centre of the pistol grip which causes a button within the trigger guard just in front of the trigger to protrude. Switching it off is then achieved by in turn simply depressing this catch with the trigger finger prior to the shot. It is clearly designed in order that you can keep your grip on the rifle and operate the safety with a minimum of movement.The trigger has a crisp and clean break. This rifle has a controlled round feed action. We did not fire this rifle, but we did perform a mechanic’s check. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance requirements.

Our Assessment:  The Sauer 202 is a lightweight bolt-action rifle manufactured by Sauer & Sohn in Germany between 1993 and 2015. The rifle was imported to the US by SIG Arms. This rifle has a modular construction which allowed easy replacement of components and caliber changes. This rifle has a modular barrel-change system allows to change between calibers easily, and was offered in a large selection of calibers.

The craftsmanship on the Sauer 202 Elegance is truly outstanding. This rifle exemplifies German engineering and quality, with a beautiful finish that makes it a pleasure to handle. The walnut stock is not only visually appealing but also ergonomically designed, providing a comfortable grip and easy handling.
