Sights / Optics: 30-06 Barrels- The front sight is a black blade with a white stripe, inserted into the integral barrel rib. The rear sight is a flip-up square notch sight, pinned to the integral barrel rib. The top of the top barrel is mounted with a Simmons 6.5-20x scope with a fine crosshair reticle. The glass in the scope is clear. The scope shows minor wear, with only a couple of minor dings throughout the scope’s finish. Overall, the scope rates in Very Good to Fine condition. The scope is mounted on a one-piece base, and sits in 1” rings.

12 Gauge & 20 Gauge Barrels- These barrels are mounted with a bead, at the front of the top barrel on the vent rib. Both of these barrels also feature a smaller, mid-length bead, at the middle of the vent rib.

Stock Configuration & Condition: The stocks are a two-piece checkered walnut stock set, with a semi-pistol grip, fluted raised comb, vented rubber buttpad, and a detachable checkered forend with finger grooves. There are sling studs front and rear, one in the belly of the buttstock, and the other sling studs are integral to the bottom barrels on all 3 barrel sets. The LOP measures 14” from the front of the trigger to the back of the buttpad. The stocks show light wear, with a few scattered scratches, dings, and compressions, mostly scattered throughout the buttstock. The buttpad has a slightly loose fit to the buttstock. The stock’s finish is strong throughout. The checkering is well defined, with sharp peaks. The stocks fit tightly to the frame, with no play. There are no chips or cracks. Overall, the stocks rate in Very Good to Fine condition.

Type of Finish: Blued

Finish Originality: Original

Bore Condition: .30-06 Barrels- Both bores are bright with sharp rifling. In this writer’s opinion, the bores rate 10/10.

12 Gauge Barrels- Both bores are bright, and show light fouling towards the front of the barrels. In this writer’s opinion, the bores rate 9.5/10.

20 Gauge Barrels- Both bores are bright, and show minor fouling towards the front of the barrels. In this writer’s opinion, the bores rate 10/10.

Overall Condition: This firearm retains about 95% of its original metal finish. The balance of the finish shows light surface corrosion throughout the barrel release lever, tang safety, and on the top barrel rib of the .30-06 barrel set, just behind the rear sight. There are a couple of minor dings on the trigger guard. Minor surface corrosion is starting to form right at the breech and the muzzles of both of the shotgun barrel sets. There are a few minor dings scattered throughout all of the barrel sets. Otherwise, all 3 barrel sets have deep and dark bluing, as does the receiver. The markings are clear and legible on all 3 barrel sets. The pins are unmarred. Overall, this firearm rates in Very Good condition.

Mechanics: The action functions correctly, as does the tang safety, and the barrel selector. The trigger has a crisp and clean break. We did not fire this firearm, but we did perform a mechanic’s check. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance standards.

Box, Paperwork & Accessories: This firearm comes with its original Shotgun Inspection Certificate from Valmet, along with the scope and all 3 barrel sets as mentioned above.

Our Assessment: Valmet’s Model 412 is widely regarded as one of the strongest and most versatile break-action designs ever produced; a Finnish over/under intended not merely as a sporting shotgun but as a true multi-caliber, multi-purpose field system. Built from heavy-gauge steel, precisely machined monoblocks, and a famously robust locking system, the 412 gained a reputation among hunters and guides for reliability under hard use and for its ability to accept a wide array of interchangeable barrel sets. This example, configured as a rare three-barrel combination set—.30-06 Springfield rifle barrels, 12-gauge shotgun barrels, and 20-gauge shotgun barrels, embodies the platform’s full potential.

The .30-06 Springfield barrels express the cartridge’s century-long legacy as one of the most versatile hunting rounds in North America. The twin rifle bores are mirror bright and rated 10/10, perfectly suited for medium and large game where precision and authority are required. The included Simmons 6.5–20x optic reinforces the kit’s capability for longer-range shooting. The 12-gauge and 20-gauge 28″ vent-rib barrels, each fixed Full/Modified, extend the system’s usefulness into upland birds, waterfowl, and small-game scenarios. The bores across both shotgun sets remain bright and clean, showing only trace fouling and retaining exceptional internal condition.

Cosmetically, the firearm remains in Very Good condition, retaining about 95% original bluing with expected light handling wear and patches of minor surface corrosion near the rib of the 30-06 barrel, lever, and muzzles of all three barrel sets; typical of a multi-barrel hunting system that saw careful field use. The walnut stock set remains tight and well-fitted, showing only light dings and compressions with strong finish and crisp checkering. The mechanics are sound, with positive lock-up, functioning barrel selector, and a crisp trigger pull.

Altogether, this Valmet 412 three-barrel set represents a highly capable and unusually complete example of one of Europe’s finest modular sporting arms. With its original inspection certificate, rifle and shotgun barrel sets, and mounted scope, it stands as both an exceptional field system and a desirable collectible for those who appreciate the engineering and versatility of high-quality combination guns.
