Caliber: .357 Magnum

Action Type: Double Action / Single Action Revolver with Swing-Out Cylinder

Barrel Length: 2 1/2″

Markings: The left side of the barrel is marked “SMITH & WESSON.” The right side of the barrel is marked “S.&W. .357 MAGNUM.” The left side of the frame bears the S&W trademark monogram and the right side bears the “MARCAS REGISTRADAS” legend. The crane cut is marked “MOD. 19-5.” The butt is stamped “AYZ9035.”

Sights / Optics: Serrated ramp front sight paired to a fixed square-notch rear, the classic close-quarters K-frame setup designed for quick acquisition under stress.

Stock Configuration & Condition: The two-piece checkered walnut grips fit tightly and show the factory medallions. Their glossy presentation and edge profile are consistent with original equipment for this late-production Model 19 variant. No internal marking is visible on the right panel, which is typical for factory stocks of this era.

Type of Finish: High-polish blue.

Finish Originality: Factory original finish, exhibiting proper tone, reflection, and matching hue in the crane recess and under the grips.

Bore Condition: The bore is bright with sharp rifling and no visible erosion. In this writer’s opinion, it rates 10/10.

Overall Condition: This revolver retains about 98–99% of its original finish. The only notable handling marks are faint edge rubs from storage. The cylinder has only the thinnest turn line visible under bright light. The case colors on the hammer and trigger remain vivid. The revolver appears to have been fired very little, if at all.

Mechanics: The action locks up tight with excellent timing. The trigger pull is smooth in double action and crisp in single action, characteristic of the K-frame’s mechanical refinement. We did not fire this revolver. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance requirements.

Box, Paperwork & Accessories: Included are the factory blue two-piece box with matching serial label, cleaning rod, brush, mop, sight adjustment tool, and original Smith & Wesson “Revolvers” safety and instruction manual. The product code label reads “100702” and “Spec Ord. 8139,” which aligns with later 19-5 catalog listings.

Our Assessment:

The Smith & Wesson Model 19 was born in 1955 from a collaboration between famed Border Patrolman Bill Jordan and S&W engineers—an attempt to create a .357 Magnum revolver light enough for daily duty yet durable enough to handle the Magnum’s bite. Built on the K-frame, it became the quintessential lawman’s sidearm through the 1960s and 1970s, riding the hips of highway patrol officers and detectives across America. The Model 19-5, introduced in 1982 and produced into the early 2000s, marked the last era before internal locks and engineering overhauls altered the model’s classic lines.

This particular 2½-inch Model 19-5 represents the revolver at its most practical—a short-barreled powerhouse for close-quarters defense and plainclothes carry. Its balanced proportions and smooth trigger are reminders of the time when wheelguns were relied upon daily by those who carried them for a living. The deep blue finish reflects the hand-polish and craftsmanship that characterized Springfield’s output before production efficiencies reshaped the revolver world.

The product code 100702 and AYZ serial prefix suggest a circa-2002 assembly—one of the final Model 19 revolvers before the transition to the stainless Model 66 and later designs. Complete with its box, tools, and literature, this is more than a revolver—it’s a preserved echo of the classic Magnum era. Whether displayed or carried, it embodies the confidence, precision, and aesthetic that made the Model 19 a legend in American sidearm history.
