The blue remains deep and lustrous throughout, with excellent polish and minimal evidence of handling. The color case-hardening on the wide target hammer and target trigger remains vivid. Overall, this revolver rates in about Excellent condition.

Mechanics:
The action functions correctly, the timing is crisp, and the lockup is tight. The single- and double-action pulls are smooth and consistent. We did not fire this revolver. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance requirements.

Box, Paperwork & Accessories:
Included is a factory-style presentation case lined in royal blue velvet-like fletching with the original cleaning rod, mop, brush, and screwdriver. The case shows mild handling wear from age but remains intact and serviceable.

Our Assessment:
The Smith & Wesson Model 29-2 stands as one of the most iconic revolvers ever produced—an American legend that bridged the gap between frontier power and modern craftsmanship. Introduced in 1956 and immortalized in the 1970s, it was built on the massive N-frame and designed to harness the then-new .44 Magnum cartridge—revered by Elmer Keith as the ultimate revolver round for both hunting and defense. Your revolver, produced circa 1975–1976 during the height of S&W’s pinned-and-recessed craftsmanship, represents the final golden age of hand-polished blue finishes and meticulous assembly in Springfield, Massachusetts.

Imagine this revolver in its element: a cold dawn breaking over timberline, breath hanging in the air as a hunter steadies this 4-inch blued powerhouse against the frame of an old pine. The weight is substantial, the balance perfect, and the serrated ramp sight cuts through the mist. When the hammer drops, the .44 Magnum cartridge sends a concussion that rolls across the valley—exactly as Keith and Hellstrom envisioned when they married raw power to fine steel. It’s the kind of revolver that defined an era of bold experimentation and unflinching confidence in American engineering.

With its vivid case-colored target hammer and trigger, factory presentation case, and deep original finish, this Model 29-2 is more than just a revolver—it’s a time capsule from when Smith & Wesson ruled the magnum world. Collectors prize these late-’70s examples for their quality, polish, and power, and few survive this clean today. Whether displayed or holstered, it stands as a testament to precision, pride, and the enduring allure of the .44 Magnum. We are no longer offering layaway. KF
