Bore Condition: The bore is bright, the rifling is sharp. There is no visible erosion in the bore but there is stubborn fouling throughout. In this writer’s opinion, the bore rates 10/10.
Overall Condition: This pistol retains the majority of its original finish with only light handling marks on high edges and operational surfaces. Slide serrations, frame checkering, and machined edges remain crisp; the grips show minimal handling wear and are firmly fitted. Fit and finish are consistent with a high-end, one-gunsmith build.
Mechanics: The action functions correctly. The trigger is a tuned, lightweight aluminum tri-cavity unit that breaks cleanly between 3.5 and 3.75 pounds. Safeties engage securely and the slide cycles smoothly. We did not fire this pistol. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance requirements.
Accessories: The pistol comes with eight magazines, a green Nighthawk Custom soft case with embroidered logo, Nighthawk Custom patch, Nighthawk Custom barrel wrench, and owner’s manual.
Our Assessment: The Nighthawk Custom Predator exemplifies one-gunsmith attention to detail from Berryville, Arkansas — a Fully Machined Series 1911 that trades weight-forward engineering and precision fit for reduced felt recoil and rapid follow-up shots. Its match-grade coned (wafered) bull barrel, full-length guide rod, and hand-blended slide/frame fit combine to keep the pistol flat in recoil and promote quick sight recovery. The wafered barrel visually reads as a single unit with the slide, while the careful separation of wafer-to-slide avoids direct contact, aiding smooth operation and longevity.
This example is appointed as Nighthawk specified: black nitride over a forged government-size frame, Heinie/HEINE-marked rear sight, Trijicon H3 21 front sight, double-diamond cocobolo grips, 25 LPI front strap checkering, and a tuned 3.5–3.75 lb. tri-cavity trigger. Dimensions include a 5″ barrel, 6.51″ sight radius, 8.68″ overall length, and a 40.3 oz. unloaded weight — a balance of controllability and practical carry. Production of the .45 ACP Predator ceased after the barrel blank supplier closed, making this chambering increasingly notable among collectors; current Predator production is limited to 9mm and 10mm while supplies last. The included soft case, tools, patch, and eight magazines round out a complete, well-maintained package. KF
